*What is the best part of your
job with the Love, Elsie line?
I love the initial choosing of
colors, concepts and themes. I also love doing the "hand work". It's
so much fun. Oh, and writing the book... I love big projects like that!
*What types of things influence you to create the things you do? (meaning in
Love, Elsie and elsiecake Etsy shop)
Well, I guess like most girls, I
love trends. I always like to try to catch them when they're young. I love
change, so it's fun to develop and change things over time. I love films with
vibrant colors and music that makes me want to paint. Oh, and shopping... that
usually works! :D
*As a scrapbooker what do you find most rewarding about
it?
I've always been one to just enjoy
the project that I am working on at the moment. I mean, I like looking at old
books (that is super fun!), but my favorite part is starting something fresh...
a new challenge or concept or style!
*who or what has truly inspired you to be the painter that you are?
Well, my favorite painter is Jim
Houser. I remember the way I felt when I first saw his work. It was
fascinating. I have always had a soft spot for his style and his use of text.
On a daily basis, the people who inspire me are my friends who are my own age
who are doing really ambitious things with their lives. They are doing things
that require so much sacrifice and hard work. On a day when I am feeling a
little lazy they always inspire me work harder and dream.
*One thing in your loft you could not live without?
My painting table. It's my
favorite place!
*What
some of your creative plans for the future?
Well, someday soon I hope to have
a joint studio with the most inspiring person I know, Jeremy Larson (myspace.com/jeremylarson).
I am working on a few book projects, have some crazy and very fun plans for my
shop (elsiecake.etsy.com) and more time paintings. Those
are my creative dreams at this moment.
*What is your most favorite thing you have ever created?
A painting called
"Curious" and my newest book. :D
*Favorite movie quote of all time?
"Am I no longer young, and
still not half-perfect?"
*City or country living?
I want to live in the country. The
city is good for me right now, though. :)
*Best part of your day?
Working late at night. It's just
different, somehow...
*Favorite supplies to create with?
Fabric, paint, canvas, embroidery
and wood.
